  1. Here are last-minute notes and additions to Portable tar documentation:

  3. !!! BE WARNED THIS IS TEST VERSION. It works fine for me, but changes
  4. in basic IO support make me suspicious - bugs are probable enough.
  5.  
  6. Main changes since version 3.20g - not reflected in the documentation
  7. yet - are the following:
  8.  
  9. 1) Added support for DOS7/Windoze Long File Names (LFN).
  10.    The program is still DOS executable and have no native Win32 version.
  11.    Nevetherless it detects presence of LFN service and use it.
  12.    Note: LFN service is not available from bare DOS, you should run DOS
  13.         session from graphic environment.
  14.    Warning: new service was tested in MS-DOS 5.0 and Windows 95
  15.         (Chickago) only. It should run in the same manner under, let's
  16.         say, DOS 2.1 or Windows NT, but I did not verify it.

  18. 2) Integrated bugfixes/enhancements in ASPI (especially for Windows
  19.    environment) from Nelson Bolyard (see also file thanks.to).
  20.    In particular, program prints progress indicator in "very verbose"
  21.    mode (specify -v flag twice or more).
  22.    In case of problems you may enforce old regime with new "slow"
  23.    parameter, e.g. "tar tvf aspi:slow".
